Studying Pets is one of our very favorite units at Bluebird. Use these materials to help guide your learning.

Included in this bundle:

1. Cutting Strips: Print and cut into strips. Have them available with scissors, a bowl, and envelopes for the cut pieces. Find my cutting envelopes under “extras.”

2. Bone Pinpricking: Print this file onto construction paper and quarter it. Have it available on your language shelf with pinpricking supplies.

3. Pet Tracing: I recommend printing these onto cardstock and laminating. Put them in your Language area with tracing paper and clips to hold the papers together. Provide markers for tracing on the lines. Consider a Sharpie marker and watercolor paints. You can also use these as coloring/painting sheets.

4. Aquarium Addition: I recommend printing this onto cardstock. I backed the aquarium with sticky sheet cork and put a little hot glue on the backs of the fish to prevent them from scooting around.

   This can be used in a couple of different ways. Two children, who are practicing 1-1 correspondence, can use as a game by taking turns rolling a die and adding fish to the aquarium. Alternatively, children who are doing addition equations, can use the fish to find the answers.

5. “I Have a Pet” Booklet: The children can color, cut, staple and read this sweet pet themed book. I have included a version with animal drawings and one without.

6. Animal Clinic: This includes a sign to hang, a “checkup” sheet for the veterinarian, and 9 common pet labels to help with filling in the sheet. I like to set-up this dramatic play area with stuffed animals, a carrier, a felt bandage, animal treats (gems or pompoms), a scale, a stethoscope, a lab coat, and a clipboard. This is a wonderful addition while studying vertebrates because pets cover all 5 categories.
