Setting Up a Supply Shelf
Every home ought to have a supply shelf. This is a space where basic supplies can be found such as writing pencils, art materials, paper, tape, scissors, and stapler. These supplies should to be accessible at all times. Having them organized makes it easier for cleanup and finding them when inspiration strikes.
When my children were young we had an “Art Closet". The materials could be used at anytime but it was behind a door in our dining room. The art closet had a couple of shelves stocked with supplies. I used jars, tins, baskets, and clementine boxes to organize. I kept “special supplies” on a higher shelf, those came out for specific projects and sometimes needed guidance (like glitter!).
I made a short video showing you a very simple setup. You may want to start small like this and add materials as your children get used to having the freedom.
